Pass me more of the good stuff

Bigger, bladder, better. Aw yeah! The crew of the Bebop are back! Reuniting most of the original production team for one more go, is this 2001 film of Cowboy Bebop the movie, a.k.a. Knockin On Heavens Door. The story chronologically takes place towards the end of the series and puts Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed, and Ein, up against an all new kind of enemy. And dude, this one is really difficult to fight! Director Shinichiro Watanabe wanted to up the scale for this movie: the visuals, the stakes, the affects, the overall feel of the movie, and boy did he do it right! Honestly there's not too much I can say here that's different from what I said in my last review of the series. The film was enjoyed by fans of the series and other anime fans alike. It was a definite commercial success, bringing in over 3 million dollars at the box office. And it was well deserved. The film really reminded viewers of just how good the series was, and it did it on the big screen. This movie is gorgeous. The animation, design, effects, music, and voice acting are all quality. I really love the opening and closing sequences for this film. So much of this film motivates and reminds us to recall just how awesome the series was, and what it did best. It thrilled us, made us think, laugh, and feel for the characters as they went through their ordeals. All this, with a pretty snazzy soundtrack to boot. Soundtrack definitely sounds more like a movie soundtrack; more grand and its scales, as it no doubt should.

And now the plot. The villain is delightfully... Oh how should I put it... Insane. But this madman is oh so very clever too, and he pulls it all off with style. Of course, Spike is still the coolest cowboy in town, but the adversaries he faces off in this adventure are definitely all even matches for him. And I just love that! In some episodes of the show, you just knew. You just knew that guy was going to get his ass handed to him. No mercy. After all, that's what happens when you are up against the best. However, that black and white selection of scumbag is nowhere to be seen in this film; its all shades of grey here(and no, not that kind). As an audience, you don't know if our heroes will actually get out of this one alive and unscathed. And that's the great part: it keeps you guessing till the end. I really don't want to say much more because I really really want everyone to go and watch this film! All around, its top notch. With the same English cast from the series, you can't go wrong. Performed well, directed well, written well, and produced well, this film is just great fun. And yes, lots of shiny goodness with a bunch of explosions. Seriously... explosions. But damn, they look prettyful. This film is definitely a nostalgic kick for fans of the series, bringing back the characters we loved to the big screen. It brings back all the style, fun, adventure, and that barrel full of kickass along with it. Don't miss this one.
