Review: Exile on the Planet of the Apes #3

images-12

18 years before a man named Taylor fell from the stars…
Ape society is evolving, yet not all primates are considered equal. Humans alone lack the power of speech. Two years ago, Dr. Zaius banished all humans from Ape City, launching a campaign of eradication. But one among them was taught to communicate with his hands.
Now the human rebellion has begun. They don’t need to speak to find their voice…

Wow does this series do the old series such justice.  By old series I mean the movie franchise from back in the olden days, well not really olden but you get my drift.  I love this I mean it really does strike a chord for older fans and quite honestly I think it is so well portrayed that even if this is a new experience for someone it’s going to be one hell of a good one.  Corrina and Gabriel do a wonderful job in capturing the essence here with talking apes and signing humans interacting with one another to complete their goals.

Granted there is a small group of Apes that are working with the humans, though they aren’t trusted by either the other apes or the humans, setting up a time that could come which reunites both societies living in harmony.

I really am super impressed with everything I see here.  The detail in the explosives the way even among themselves the humans fight to use the best weapons to make them feel better about their self.  The reaction of Prisca in her shock at finding explosives and her stark honesty when dealing with the other apes as well as being the voice of reason show that women really are smarter then any of us give them credit for.

Also we’ve got such an incredible artist and colourist here to bring it all to life.  Again just as impressive in giving this world that old school movie feel with the uniforms the Apes are wearing and the likeness of Prisca and everyone else we’ve seen.  This is just a truly impressive feat taking something old and making it new again.  Fresh, current, dynamic, fascinating and more I could go on but this is one of those mini-series that have it all.
