Review: Hack/Slash Annual

hsann
Hack/Slash has a long history of guest starring characters from other horror stories – Evil Ernie, Chucky, the Suicide Girls and Bomb Queen – and now it’s time for Hatchet star Victor Crawley to go head to head with Miss Hack. Written by Benito Cereno and Ariel Zucker-Brull taking up the pencil, the annual is a 36 page gore fest set to a new Orleans backdrop.

The story follows a group of young party-goers taking a cruise through A Louisiana bayou, when they are attacked by Mr Crawley. Some are killed, some escape, and one young lady escapes with a few missing appendages, after being left for dead by her friends.

This made her all sorts of vindictive, and so years later she is able to relocate Victor Crawley and her friends to the Nawlins Hyperdome in the hope of vengeance. Cassie Hack has something to say about it though…
Zucker-Brull’s pencils are raw and messy, subtly inked and softly coloured – a style that’s not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, but fits the tone of the book, like all good comic art should. The Hack/Slash Annual is a great little horror story, and if you’re a fan of the regular series, you’ll want to pick this up.
